A few words from our volunteers
St Luke's was a fascinating place to volunteer. I have lived in Brighton for several years as a student and whilst aware of the homelessness and financial hardship experienced by many I didn't really have any idea of the real impact. Helping the organisation to run, and in turn helping the clients, provided the perspective I needed. Not to mention I got to work alongside some lovely volunteers and staff! Personally, the administration experience really helped me in interviews further down the line.

Our clients come to the advice service seeking help and support as many people find day to day activities a huge struggle for a variety of different reasons. They may feel anxious, nervous, overwhelmed, worried, distressed, frightened or vulnerable. SLAS provides a supportive, empathetic environment that makes them feel respected, listened to and able to talk openly in a totally confidential setting. It is a real privilege to be able to offer time to be a part of this team over the last seven years.

Volunteering for St Luke's is a highpoint of my week. The team are a fun and supportive bunch who I enjoy spending time with and it's clear the difference we can make to clients. Clients often seem to carry the weight of their debts physically as well as mentally and emotionally and it's a privilege to see that lift. My experience as a volunteer money adviser is also invaluable in building my own skills and expertise and readily transferable to other areas of my life.

Our service plays a valuable role in the local community of Brighton & Hove and with only a small team of staff, we rely on the commitment of our team of dedicated volunteers.
Volunteering provides excellent experience that can lead to future employment in the money advice sector, financial services and local government.
When we are recruiting for a paid position these will be posted here on our website as well as on our Facebook & Twitter pages.
